Pretty Paper – The Lumineers

Genre: Folk

Mood: comfy, home, Christmas

Although this song was originally written and sung by Willie Nelson, I really enjoy this version. It is a song to listen by the fire, drinking hot chocolate on Christmas.

It is the simple things that make this version so good. As much as I love the pop trash Christmas music that plays on repeat all December, this is a change of pace. Through this crazy time of year (getting presents and wrapping and spending time with your crazy family), this makes you sit and relax.

My favorite lyric of the song is, “Pretty pencils write I love you”.

I never thought about pencils as pretty, but I guess a pencil can be pretty beautiful if they are writing beautiful words.

It got me to think about how a pencil can create such art through words. These words can be novels, poetry, song lyrics… etc. What a beautiful thing we can write with a pencil. A beautiful thing as simple as I love you.

Merry Christmas everyone. May you listen to this song, sit by a fire, and love the little things this season.

Also, a very Happy Birthday to Jesus 🙂

xoxo
