For our presentation, we analyzed Angharad N. Valdivia's "The Gendered Face of Latinidad: Global Circulation of Hybridity" and "'There's My Territory': Shakira Crossing Over" by Cynthia Fuchs. We looked into the role that factors, such as skin color and the thickness of one's accent, played in Latinas crossing over from Spanish to English mainstream media. Our focus was on popular Latinas who have become international sensations such as Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, and Sofia Vergara. Our presentation covered stereotypes, colorism, race, ethnicity, and transnationalism.
