Orozco Murals Panel 21: Modern Migration of the Spirit

In Defense of Modernity

Our project consists of two parts. First, Warren wrote a poem called In Defense of Modernity, which was inspired by the works of Richard Blanco. The poem is a commentary on the false binaries that borders create and how the media transforms Latinx race and culture. We then wrote a line-by-line analysis of the poem in order to highlight this commentary.

The Murals and the Music: A Documentary

The second part of the project is a video that addresses the controversy surrounding Dartmouth's Hovey murals. The beginning of the video is a series of shots of the Orozco murals, and Warren composed a song inspired by latin pop and reggaeton that harmonizes really well with the art. We then interview an eclectic group of Dartmouth students to get their reactions to the offensive artwork, and we also hear their thoughts on whether the murals should be destroyed or retained.
