Latinxs in the Virtual Barrio

New Directions for Latinxs in New Media

For our presentation we examined the ways in which new media forms have impacted Latinx communities and the consequences of these shifts.  We focused on the importance of Latino media, the implications of net neutrality on minority groups, and the links between race and internet usage. By analyzing Nakamura's "Measuring Race on the Internet: Users, Identity, and Cultural Difference" and Castañeda's "The Importance of Spanish-Language and Latino Media" we were able to gain a better understanding of the ways in which new media have and will shape the political, social, and economic future of minority groups in the United States.
