The Machine in the Game

This class discusses and analyzes the intersection of tech, science, and sports, examining innovations in equipment, doping, Paralympic technology, and sex testing (or lack thereof).

My first paper in that class summarizes and explains the three views of sport as theorized by Sigmund Loland (my paper here).

My second paper profiles Lionel Messi and his use of HGH as a child to artificially enhance his standard of living, but also his soccer ability (here).

My third paper presents a response to a 2015 study calling for the end to the sex testing and medical requirements often required to compete in women's sports (here).

My fourth paper summarizes how marijuana is treated in the NFL, the NBA, and MLB and explains the major problems with it. It then offers a solution (can be found here).
