Personal Reflection

Unlike many of the essays and projects we have created this term, Project III had no set outline in which an essay could be viewed. However, the typical essay outline we had been following throughout the term was still present in the assignment, it was only adapted to fit the media richness of Project III. Since this project was completely media based, the “essay” we were created had to be divided into different sections that were strung together through the website. On the Home page we introduced our thesis per say and then, the remaining pages were claims that supported that claim. These pages or “body paragraphs” contained either images or data that could further explain our claims. The pages featured writing that explained and media tools that backed our claim. The adaptions throughout this project continued as there was no broader significance to be made since our audience was the general public. That being said, the specific places we choose on Dartmouth’s campus had to made more portable and broad so that anyone who visited the site could understand the context and claim behind them. Another writing standard that was persistent throughout every assignment this semester was the idea of using a conceptual lens. We started our exploration of design by reading and listening to particular works from which we extracted key ideas and concepts that we applied to specific places on campus. This methodology has been the most prevalent element we have used over the course of the term, and is something I will most certainly use in future essays.
