When asked about why she chose to cover “Close to You” by Rihanna, Alexis wrote, “This song is a piano ballad – something that is not the usual for Rihanna. I found this song by accident one day while scrolling through a list of her songs. After listening to it, I was hooked. I immediately went to my piano and listed to this song over and over, until I could match the piano chords playing in my headphones with my own hands. I have always been a fan of Rihanna, and especially this song. I knew I wanted to incorporate it into this final project because of my personal connection to it, and also Rihanna’s connection to the Latinx culture.”
