Potential

This website defines Room 65 as a third space for creative collaboration using David Fleming’s definition of a good space for public discourse and Peter Salovey’s concept of a third space.

Artsy Piano

This piano offers users of the room diverse musical possibilities

Over the course of this website’s creation I often peeked into Room 65 and recorded the beautiful sounds that permeated the air through the walls. These various sounds that appear throughout the website serve to prove that the space is utilized as a third space by some talented students that know it exists.

Here is a clip from a Violin and Piano duo.

Neglect

Despite it’s creative potential, this space is a rather forgotten and neglected room due to its isolated location and bland signage.  This website will identify some issues that weaken this room’s connection with the larger campus.  An example of the lack of use are the sign sheets.

Empty Practice Sheets show the underutilized nature of Room 65.

Name

Finally, this website looks at how a neglected space can gain relevance and be used to its full potential if it is given a creative and identifying name.  Room 65 reveals the impact that a forgettable or unforgettable name can have on an amazing space that seems lost in a larger context.
