French-Language Essays

I’m passionate about the French language, which I’ve studied since elementary school. Studying French allows me a window into Francophone cultures and enables me to read the original works of thinkers like Sartre and Voltaire. Even more, I hope to one day support vulnerable populations in developing nations, and I believe that French could help me overcome important language barriers, given how widely spoken the language is in certain African countries.

I’ve been privileged to have the chance to immerse myself in the French language at Dartmouth. I have taken nine French courses in college, all taught entirely in the language. These include two terms of language immersion – an intermediate level program in Lyon, France, and an advanced program in Paris. During the intermediate program, I earned the Rick Angulo World Experience Award, a scholarship awarded to seven students per year for intellectual curiosity and academic performance. I also earned one course citation, an acknowledgment of special effort and achievement, during each program.
