David C. Wells

  • Born in Fayetteville, NY in 1858.¹
  • Attended Yale University after receiving schooling from Phillips Academy.¹
  • Earned a B. D. in Theology in 1885.¹
  • Studied ethics extensively in Europe thereafter.¹
  • In 1893, accepted a professorship in sociology at Dartmouth (first Professor of Social Science at the College).

    He is an enthusiastic teacher and meets with the success which almost invariably rewards instructors who are in love with their work.¹

  • Helped to develop the roots of the modern Sociology Department at Dartmouth.
