Belarusian opposition journalist Raman Pratasevich was arrested today when his commercial Ryanair flight bound for Vilnius, Lithuania was intercepted by a Belarusian military fighter jet midair after an alleged “security threat” was reported to the flight by the Belarusian government. Many believe this threat to not have been credible and suspect that this flight was stopped for political reasons to get ahold of Pratasevich. Critique was quick following the breaking of the news and multiple foreign ministers from around Europe have called for the possibility of new sanctions being placed upon Belarusian authorities for the unprecedented incident.
