DiCaprio Addresses World Leaders at UN Regarding Climate Change

This video was made with the intention of teaching people about climate change and letting them know that things are in fact being done on a larger scale. I used the audio and some of the video from DiCaprio’s speech at the United Nations because it was a motivational speech aimed at world leaders. Although I am not targeting the same audience he was, using his speech as a base for my video serves the purpose of having my audience hear his message as well as see that world leaders are gathering in the UN to deal with this very real issue. In light of recent events this video is now more relevant than ever. Trump’s administration decided to withdraw the US from the largest international agreement ever made with the purpose of combatting climate change.

DiCaprio is calling on world leaders to start acting against climate change by implementing new policies but my audience is not the same as his. Therefore my specific call to action is different from his. The video mentions many possible solutions that include the use of sustainable resources such as solar panels and wind turbines. Before concluding my video  I decided to include a powerful quote from the speech, “You can make history or be vilified by it”. I believe this quote has strong implications as to the potential our actions can have. Whether we choose to act or to ignore the problem what we do will have large consequences. The video then concludes urging people to use this renewable energy sources.

This video accomplishes the goal of spreading information about climate change. This video also accomplishes the goal of inspiring people to look at climate change a little bit more seriously and realize that it is indeed an actual threat. The video accomplishes this by using an inspiring speech delivered by a well known celebrity while showing some powerful images.
