Post 7: A Reflection

I can’t believe it is already Week 10 and I am packing my things for winter break!

When I look back on the term, I cannot believe the amount of topics I have learned about in LACS 20. Entering the class, I knew little about Nicaragua except for its geographical location. Now, I feel that I have a deep understanding of Nicaragua culturally, socially, politically, and in an economic sense. Furthermore, I gained significant knowledge regarding topics such as development, service learning, and humanitarian medicine.

While in many classes my experience surrounds listening to lectures and memorizing this information so that I can answer test questions, LACS 20 was much different. Because this class involved many projects, discussions, and presentations, I feel that I understand the information intimately, and not just because I had to, but because I wanted to. Projects such as my Tourism’s Impacts and the Nicaraguan Canal Project have further piqued my interest in development politics and economics. As a result, I am taking Development Economics next term, plan on pursuing the CCESP for next year, and hope to take more classes on Latin America in the future!

I would like to conclude by thanking Professor Moody, my classmates, and the many organizations/people who took the time to talk with our class, all of whom helped me significantly in furthering my understanding of the information and creating this website!

Sincerely,

Andrew Blackwell
