Day 6: Meenakshi Amman Temple & Clothes!

howdy folks,

Daniel here! After an action-packed two days of incredible presentations and interactions with the AMRF researchers, today was a welcome breather. Most of us were able to sleep in since the first thing on our agenda was Dr. Zegan’s talk at 10 AM.

Dr. Zegans presented on the work he has been doing on potential antifungal drugs (propranolol and timolol) for fungal keratitis. Although in vitro results were promising and the group was able to generate a hypothetical mechanism of action relating to calcium, results from knockouts were unable to validate the hypothesis. Science rarely works as expected, which is a tough but important lesson (shoutout Chetan).

With that being the conclusion of the AMRF-Dartmouth conference, please enjoy a few pictures of us and our new friends!

Then, a group of us went adventuring to the mini supermarket that we visited briefly on Day 2.

Candid (?) – kind sorta

With backpacks loaded with snacks, we returned to the Inspiration House for lunch and drove over to the Meenakshi Amman Temple.

*NOTE – Dawn had been talking to us about this one fabric/tailor shop where you can recreate an article of clothing of your choice with a snazzy new fabric and TODAY was the day which we got to go

The Paradox of Choice….

Nearly all of us ended up ordering tailor fitted clothing that will be arriving sometime tomorrow (stay tuned for fit pics in the near future!) as well as some nifty drawstring bags, scarves, and trinkets.

After a thrilling time shopping, we rounded the four towers (located on the cardinal directions) before going inside.

A stunning picture of one of the towers

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to bring our phones into the temple so I have no pictures to show, but it was an incredible experience that I am sure all of us would love to talk about.

Obligatory Group Picture

After visiting the temple, we hurried back to the Inspiration House to wash up before Grand Rounds where Mark presented the four cases of carotid cavernous fistula (CCF) that he presented in 40 minutes during yesterday’s talk in 15 minutes (crazy).

After ending right on the dot at 7 PM (many thanks Dr. Prajna), we sprinted back in the pouring rain back to the Inspiration House. In case you were wondering, pouring rain is not nearly as glamorous as The Notebook makes it out to be.

Sopping Wet.

Anyways, that’s all for me for today.

Cheers,

Luckless Superior
