“Twelve” “Thousand Pieces of Land”

We arrived at Jinghong, the capital of Sipsong Panna midnight, August 27, 2015. As the local guide Li Yuanyuan explained, Sipsong Panna, i.e., Xishuang banna, meant "twelve" and "thousand pieces of land" in the Dai language – “Xishuang” was “twelve”, and “banna” was “thousand pieces of land.” “Xishuang banna” indicates the twelve major ethnic groups who originally lived in this Southwest border area of China.

In the past two days, we visited China's largest botanical garden, the giant Buddhist temple, the Wild Elephant Valley, the large ethnic museum, and ate lots of tropical fruits. More pictures will be posted soon.
