The first stop for our two-week journey across three Chinese provinces: Xi’an, Shanxi. Xi’an is located in Northern China, bordering Inner Mongolia and home of the Terracotta Warriors, funerary art buried with the Qin Emperor in 210-209 BC.
Our first stop in Xi’an was a bicycle tour around the Inner City’s ancient wall.
We then visited several museums and attended a special Chinese tea ceremony, where we sampled many different kinds of teas with different health benefits, such as teas tailored to improve skin, circulation, etc. Delicious!!
The day we visited the Terracotta Warriors was absolutely packed – we could barely take a picture with everybody squeezed into a single frame.
At night, after an extensive dumpling sampling dinner, we watched a traditional Chinese show exhibiting an array of dance performances from the Tang dynasty.
We finished our journey in Xi’an in the city’s Muslim Quarter, an area famous for a large concentration of Hui Muslims and their homes and mosques, along with many delicious street foods and snacks.
Next stop: Chengdu!
