About Me

Alex Bramsen smiling with hair down in front of a wall of leavesHi!!!! Whether you be friend, family, mentor, co-worker, or stranger welcome to the multimedia collection of my work throughout my Undergraduate time at Dartmouth College. My name is Alexandra (Alex) Bramsen and I am a Zimbabwean citizen that grew up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I majored in Geography modified with Environmental Studies and minored in both Theater and Chemistry, taking advantage of that liberal arts education. I graduated magna cum laude in June 2022. For the year 2022-2023 I will still be at Dartmouth College working in the Geography Department as the post-baccalaureate fellow assisting in department classes and research.

My passions are in social and environmental justice work. I am looking to move into the field of sustainable international development, acknowledging that how we understand sustainability needs to be reimagined to be more inclusive, resilient, attentive and diverse in its approach toward ourselves and the more-than-human world. The biosphere is under significant strain environmentally but as a global community we have concerns that both address and run deeper and wider than Maslow’s human physical needs of food, water, shelter, clothing and sleep. In my studies I have got to explore ways we have addressed concerns in the past, what people are doing now and even got to think through where we can go in the future. Solutions are complex and never a one size fits all situation. My multifarious liberal arts Bachelor of Arts Degree has aided in understanding how this intricate approach to justice issues, while tedious and demanding, is the only way we have a hope for not making things much worse. We have to have patience, commitment and care in everything that we do in order to get to a world that is just for all. Take a look at some of the research and work I have gotten to learn from.
