Below is a link to our Final Project on the Politics of Nicaragua. Our project focuses on a comparison of the policies of the Somoza and Sandinista regimes. We also touch on the Chamorro, Aleman, and Bolaños governments. The discussion covers several topics, including, education, the environment, the economy, civil liberties, and health. Our goal is to provide an objective analysis of how different policies affected Nicaragua.
We came up with several discussion questions to consider while reading through the presentation.
- Should term limits for the presidency have been eliminated? Will Daniel Ortega continue to hold power in Nicaragua?
- How can we further improve the system of education? What changes have worked and what changes have not worked?
- What is the best way to bolster Nicaragua's economy? How can the government help grow other sectors of the economy?
- How can we improve health care preventative policies? How do they evolve to deal with diseases and health issues like dengue, dehydration, etc.?
