Project 2 for my Writing 5 class culminated in a thesis-last, IMRAD structure, argumentative essay. The assignment included generating a question originating from localist literature and discussion, researching both our chosen archives and critical lenses, and answering the question through the essay.

For my project, I chose to write about Emma Sulkowicz’s”Mattress Performance” and her protest of Columbia University’s handling of sexual assault cases. I chose to evaluate her performance and try to understand what about her unique protest made it so successful. I accomplished this by evaluating it through two, localist critical lenses: endurance performance art and the Occupy protests.
