Media Analysis

“Be careful what you watch” is a common warning parents tell their kids, and with good reason: The media is highly influential. In the developed world, the media is the gate for distributing information to large audiences. Hollywood takes the gold medal for influencing stereotypes, whether that be for gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, social class, you name it.

Throughout the course of Sex, Gender, and Society, we used media to help facilitate our learning. Documentaries and TedTalks were staples when it came to homework. Those films in turn influenced our understanding of their topics, which we analyzed and discussed in class.
