Class Reflections

The Stories We Tell (S19) – This is my first-year seminar that I took in the spring of my first year of college. I chose to take this seminar because I wanted to improve the way I presented myself, especially when it comes to academia and the professional world. However, I did not expect to focus on so many narratives that had nothing to do with me, and I enjoyed it! Not only do I have a new perspective on Native American history and the story of Pocahontas, but I also explored the Challenger Disaster, artwork by Andy Warhol, and the expansive realm of visual/scene literacy. I learned the importance of rhetorical choices and the characteristics of a well-written narrative – I even had the opportunity to write a couple of narratives of my own. I encourage you to check out my post called The Power of Rhetorical Choices in Narrative, based on my experience in this class.
