Podcast

The purpose of the Audio Project is to create a short podcast to educate listeners about the Second Amendment and gun reform legislation in the United States. I frame my podcast to form an educational and emotional narrative. In the beginning of the podcast, listeners learn about a few well-known mass shootings. Then, I interview Nadine (a Dartmouth student with a personal familial connection to the National Rifle Association) to better understand a NRA supporter’s perspective on gun legislation in the U.S. In my closing narration section, I seek to reconcile Nadine’s position with my own. Ultimately, the flow of the podcast works well to frame the topic of gun usage and regulation in such a way that many different political groups feel included in the conversation. If I were to redo this project, when conducting my interview with Nadine I might try to improve the audio quality. I would do this by placing the microphone closer to her mouth. When I interviewed Nadine for this project, her service dog occasionally came very close to the microphone and consequently created ruffling noises in the audio recording.
