The above article published by NPRed points out that on a national scale, Latinos have a history of being treated poorly in the classroom. From institutional segregation in the mid 20th century to de-facto poorer treatment in the past several decades, getting a quality education for Latinos in the US has been an uphill battle. 62 percent of Latinos under the age of 18 who make up a population of over 18 million people, live in poverty. On the national level, there are clear shortcomings, but how is the education system in Santa Clara County doing in terms of creating equity for young Latinos?
