Legal Cyborgs Today

Neil Harbisson was born in 1984 and in 2004 became the first legally accepted cyborg. Being born without the ability to distinguish colors Neil struggled due to his passion and care for art. Finally in 2004 Neil had an intenna put into his head which allows him to feel and hear colors. Colors such as infrared he can also feel and hear unlike the normal human senses. Neil has opened the doors for this field because shortly after Neil’s procedure there was a woman that underwent a precedure on her elbow. Moon Ribas was the woman who had the microchip placed in her elbow which allowed for her to feel seismic activity from all around the world. The two of them both teamed up to start the Cyborg Foundation which is a non-profit organization in which they encourage the change and want people to become cyborgs. As time moves along their company is coming up with grand ideas to use on people in the future such as a chip that connects right to the visual cortex in your brain and allows you to operate doors and it would clearly help the viusally impaired see better as well. To me I feel very scared by the fact that there are cyborgs in our society and I know the number will just continue to grow with every leap forward technology is taking and sometime in the relative future you may have to ask yourself if you want to become a cyborg.
