Sarah Winnemucca: A Leader for Peace — Group Activity

An introduction to Sarah Winnemucca through staging a play for a classroom or group. This exercise introduces students to new vocabulary and history, including the displacement of Native Americans from their homeland. Designed for 6th graders, and can be scaled.  Sarah Winnemucca was a Native American interpreter, writer, and diplomat. In this play, which is based on actual events, Sarah mediates a conflict between the U.S. Army and her fellow Paiutes.

Part of the Evan-Moor “Readers Theater for 6th Graders” workbook.
