"The Herbarium" - An Experiential Exercise for all Levels

Home for many women in the nineteenth century encompassed not just the house or rooms and indoor occupations, but the natural world outside. When she was 14, Dickinson collected wild plants from her garden and woods, pressed and labeled them in a book called an “herbarium.” It was a way to practice the natural sciences, which was considered an acceptable subject for girls.  Making an herbarium is a wonderful way to walk in the footsteps of Dickinson and also raise environmental and ecological awareness.
