About Me

Hi! My name is Marcus, I’m currently a junior at Dartmouth College.  I am originally from Atlanta, GA.   At Dartmouth, I am studying sociology with hopes of pursuing medicine in the future.  On campus, I am really involved in pre-health organizations, especially those geared towards underrepresented students.  I am also involved with social activists organizations including the marcus_greshamNAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and the AAm (Afro-American Society).  I am certainly committed to racial justice and I look forward to continuing my social justice work and tying it in to my medical aspirations.

I have a lot of experience volunteering in the United States, but I have never volunteered abroad.  In fact, I have only been abroad once when I visited Mexico as a tourist (see my blog post about tourism!).  I am very passionate about community health, and that is why I’m so excited to be on the community health team.  This past summer, I was the volunteer coordinator for the Community Health and Men’s Promotion Summit (CHAMPS) which takes place every year in my hometown.  It’s a program that provides health informational seminars, health testing and material goods, all at no cost to participants.  I am excited to continue to serve after my trip to Nicaragua, as I have plans to volunteer at a Community Health Center during my off-term this Spring!
