DOC Trips Traditions

Pranks:

  • Safety Meeting prank: Students about to embark on trips are told that they have to attend a “safety meeting,” which starts out like one, but suddenly turns into stage entertainment.
  • Robert Frost/Dr. Seuss’ ashes: Students on a trip are told that their trip leaders have the ashes to Robert Frost or Dr. Seuss and when it comes time to scatter them, they find out that there are no ashes or the ashes aren’t real.
  • Proposal prank: Two trip leaders from a different trip pretend to be hikers who’ve lost their way and “accidentally” come across a freshman Trip group. They ask for help when one of them suddenly decides to propose to the other, after which they reveal that it’s not real.
  • Canadian Groundfruit prank: Trip leaders lead the group to a buried fruit (pineapple, etc.) and try to pass it off as a “Canadian Gorundfruit.”
  • Injury prank: One of the trip leaders would pretend to get hurt and profuse that they need first aid right away before revealing that they’re not hurt at all.

Other:

  • Organic Farming: tradition where at the end of the Trip, the students have to harvest all the necessary ingredients to make a pizza.
  • Annie’s Mac and Cheese: Many trip leaders pack this food every year to eat while on the Trip.
