Spots on Campus: 

  • Foco = Class of ’53 Commons dining hall (term is short for “food court”)
  • Robo = Robinson Hall (front lawn is where most students first arrive for DOC Freshman Trips)
  • The Hop = The Hopkins Center / Courtyard Cafe dining hall
  • Blobby = Baker Library Lobby
  • FFB, 2FB, 3FB, 4FB = First floor Berry, second floor Berry, etc. (different floors of Berry Library; most common study spaces on campus)
  • KAF = King Arthur Flour coffee shop
  • BEMA = Big Empty Meeting Area

Miscellaneous Phrases:

  • @now = right now (used when messaging others to make plans)
  • shmob = used in the early weeks of fall term to describe large groups of first year students that travel together from place to place (term comes from “freshman mob”)
  • facetimey = describing a person who is very social, or a location where one is likely to run into others
  • Blitz = email (Blitz was the old email service at Dartmouth prior to transitioning to Outlook)
  • Flitz = flirty blitz (method by which a Dartmouth student asks another on a date over email)
