  • The informants name is Kate. Kate is a 22 year old college student from Chicago, New York. She is currently a senior at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Her family celebrates Christmas. Kate attends Christmas mass with her family the night before Christmas. She spends the holiday in Chicago with her immediate family.

  • During the holiday season many families gather for big meals with their family and friends. Many of our informants discussed having important Christmas traditions surround food and meals. One reason for eating Chinese food on Christmas Eve in modern culture is that Chinese Restaurants are often some of the only establishments open the night before Christmas.

Item:

  •  Each year after attending one o’clock mass on Christmas Eve her and her family go out for Chinese food. They go every year with their family friends and have been going since before she was born. They go to the same place every year called Dees Chinese Cuisine. Her parents have been going to this same place since before they were married.
