Informant Data:

  • Benjamin (Benji) Hannam is a 21 year old male student from London, UK. He grew up playing rugby from the age of 7 and so has been playing and watching the sport for 14 years. Benji grew up in London, UK where he was born to an English father, Ian Hannam, also from London and an American mother, Deborah Hannam, who is from Nashua, NH, USA. At the age of 18 Benji moves to the USA to attend Dartmouth College where he has played on the rugby team for all of his three years at the college thus far.

Contextual Data:

  • Within the DRFC there are items of clothing called “bequests” that are handed down each year by the graduating senior to the younger players. Over time these bequests pick of a line of former owners all of who are supposed to be similar in one way or another. The bequests act as a link between past and present players and are a large part of the deep heritage and history of the club.

Item:

  • The Cambridge U21 Jersey has been handed down primarily between the players of English descent within the club although that has not always been true. It is a rather large jersey but has the number “10” on the back which in rugby belongs to a position that requires a lot of skill and little physical requirements so it is often handed down as a joke to large players who think that they are skillful, but are not actually.
