Ellen Smalley is a member of the class of 2019 on the Dartmouth Figure Skating Team. She is from Edina MN.  She began skating around the age of 4 or 5 years of age at recommendation of her physical therapist. Her major is currently undecided.

Contextual Data:

This form of folklore occurs before year competition or show so that the skaters are ready and able to complete their programs to the best of their abilities.

Item:

Training Buddies or sessions occur after every practice where one person chases another around the rink to increase the endurance of the skater for their program training. They are assigned before each competition and are there to push each other to be their best.

“Training Buddies.  Before each competition we will be assigned training buddies for on ice support to encourage you to do some laps and for cool down. They also encourage you   when you fall.”

Collector’s Comments:

This is specific to Dartmouth College Figure skating and occurs on a yearly basis as a tradition for preparing for competitions.
