We must envision a future in which there is balance: between corporations and consumers, trade and finance, and sustainability and efficiency. But much of this future balance depends on our ability to understand the complex systems we interact with each and every day. It seems at times that we as individuals are unable to affect change, but by establishing our values, taking action against injustice, and changing our habits, we have the significant power to achieve balance before it is too late.

However, change must begin at all power scales in order for our destructive future on Earth to improve. We can no longer look the other way as powerful corporations and politicians choose financial gain over protection of our ecosystems.

In this concept map, necessary changes are outlined that must occur for a paradigm shift towards a greener future or anthropogenic damage will permanently damage our ecology.

Some people associate drastic environmental change with the sacrifice of many good things in life. In reality, these changes are not about ending the good things but rather changing our perception of what is good. We all will have to sacrifice a little in order for future generations to appreciate the same natural luxuries we are afforded today.

It is not going to be quick, it is not going to be easy, and it is never going to be over, but change must begin now.
