Background: The concept map below outlines the European colonization of what is now the Eastern Seaboard of the United States using a "Values-Action-Outcome" framework. Beginning with "V-A-O" diagram of the indigenous people prior to colonization to allows you to understand the baseline and observe the changes that occur to each aspect of the "V-A-O" diagram due to European colonization as you read the concept map chronologically (from left to right). The nature of the European colonization is important to understand as the changes that were influenced by colonization continue to effect not only local entities but also global entities in today's society. European colonization shaped the development, both internally and in the global scene, of the United States. Understanding this concept map will allow you to understand why so many unsustainable ecological, social and economic practices are present in the United States. By combining the "V-A-O" framework with a chronological framework I hope to allow the viewer to learn the history of the European colonization while understanding why events occurred the way they did. By understanding the driving forces along with the historical background of the European Colonization viewers are granted an opportunity to further their thinking towards similar situations. This further thinking is important for the prevention of similar mistakes in the future.
