How Can We Get to a Sustainable Future?

Getting to a sustainable future isn’t easy, but it is possible. This possibility has the opportunity to provide the maximum amount of benefit for the maximum amount of living things on this planet.

The changes required to achieve a sustainable future will catalyzed by outcomes of the current unsustainable socioeconomic structure in which unrestricted growth rampages. Controlling this growth and internalizing the resulting externalities requires actions across multiple scales. However, these actions will only occur if they are spurred by significant changes in values at the individual level which can work “bottom up” to higher levels of governance and business through activism.

The results of these changes in values and actions will be:

  • Decrease in growth
  • Prevention of ecological shadows
  • Increased resillience
  • Promotion of equity and diversity
  • Empowerment of the developing world

Below, a concept map outlining what a sustainable future might look like and how we might get there has been constructed in order to expand and connect relationships between these concepts.
