Framing: The culminating project of the class was a video project that builds upon the past two projects and serves as a call to action for our given topic. I kept with the theme of sustainability at Dartmouth. I decided to do my video in the form of a slam poetry/spoken word video as I thought it would be a good way to convince people to get involved. Furthermore, it was a good test of learning from the past two projects as it is the culmination of both visual design elements that we learned about through the infographic project as well as auditory rhetorical choices which we learned about through the podcast project.

Goals: My main goal of the project was to convince Dartmouth Students to get more involved with sustainability at Dartmouth, and the first step of this was to convince them to sign up for the Ruckus Listserv. The Ruckus listserv is the sustainability listerv at Dartmouth that helps students interested in sustainability keep up to date on lectures, programs, and everything else related to sustainability on campus. It provides a great starting point for students to find their unique role in sustainability at Dartmouth.

Audience: Again my specific audience was Dartmouth students.

Reflection: I felt the video project was well suited to handle the task of actually calling upon people to take direct and tangible action, which is usually the most difficult part of getting people to support and work towards an issue. In contrast to the infographic and podcast, it combines visual and auditory stimulation to help draw people in and try to convince them to do something they otherwise probably would not have done. The various shots of Dartmouth that I and others took in this video served as a great background for the intimate message I wanted to convey in the vocal narration. The combining of the senses makes video particularly well suited to handle involvement. I really liked my approach to the video as sustainability is an interesting problem as almost everyone knows it is a problem that directly affects them, yet very many people do anything about it. By using this approach I hoped to help change that by sort of calling out people by reminding them about everything Dartmouth has done for them and will continue to do in the future, and then juxtaposing that with general apathy towards real sustainability at Dartmouth.
