Framing: Following the infographic project, we made a podcast that helps to explain an issue and why it is important that people are aware of it. I decided to keep with my theme of environmental issues and specifically on sustainability at Dartmouth. In my podcast, I decided to interview Rosi Kerr, who is the Director of Sustainability at the Dartmouth Sustainability Office about her experience with sustainability in general and at Dartmouth specifically. The podcast was meant to build upon the infographic and to provide a voice/person behind the issue. It switches from the logos-base of the infographic to a more emotional base that arises from people talking about their experiences with particular issues they are passionate about.

Goals: My main goal for the project was to inform Dartmouth Students about sustainability at Dartmouth and to help establish the issue as a common problem for all Dartmouth students as well as to help give them  a stake in the issue.

Audience: The specific audience for my podcast is Dartmouth students. Again, I wanted to pick a very tailored group so that I could hopefully be more persuasive.

Reflection: In terms of rhetorical strategy the video project stood in contrast to the infographic project. The infographic was based upon facts and statistics, while the podcast was much more personal. I think a podcast is a good way to put a voice behind an issue, which helps to frame the issue in a more personal light. Through talking with Rosi about sustainability I hoped to give a relevant, expert voice on sustainability to make the issue more personal and to give an example of someone that really cares passionately and deeply about sustainability. I liked the fact that I decided to tailor my podcast to a very specific audience as it allowed me to really drill down to very specific points about what to say and keep a very clear and small audience in mind throughout the project. Furthermore, it gave me a bit of credit on the subject as a fellow student and I made sure to use the pronoun “we” throughout the project to emphasize that it is a common problem for all Dartmouth students.
