Final reflection on LACS 20, the Nicaragua CCESP, and other aspects of Nicaragua:
I feel more culturally aware and knowledgeable about going on this trip. Before this trip I didn't really understand the value or impact of what I was going to do but covering topics in class and speaking to the community through skype calls with them and having them come to class and talk to us. These instances have allowed me to be more conscious about what my service and this trip mean to me, my team, and the community I will be helping. Speaking and interviewing with Regan about the trip was also a refreshing reminder in the sense that she had already gone on the trip and talked about how in comparison to her other service trips, this was a more invested and enlightening experience. This class had exposed her to Nicaragua's culture, tradition, and history and people which prepared her for this trip. I am excited to also be able to share that similar experience and be able to connect with the community. We've heard so much from them and have had skype calls with them which have been very informative and being able to actually be there and talk to them one-on-one in Spanish will be a real connecting relationship. I feel like I will be more appreciative of this experience as opposed to any other service trip I would have done on my own. There's a difference between being able to go on a service trip with other members in comparison than going by myself. It will be great to be able to grow with them throughout this trip and be able to come together at the end of the day to share and reflect on what we have learned that day. I'm excited to become more insightful of the people that I meet and build friendships with. Most importantly, I'm glad to be able to do something and help the community. As discussed in class, our goal isn't to tell the community what to do, rather it is to provide discussion and create an environment where they are able to talk and in hope create change based on those talks. I can't wait to be able to do that and hear their perspective and what they have to say. This is my last blog post before my trip which is in a little more than 2 weeks I can't wait to be able to return and be able to talk about my experience! Until then I will, hasta luego!
Me siento culturalmente más consciente acerca de ir en este viaje. Antes de este viaje realmente no entendí el valor o el impacto de lo que iba a hacer, pero cubriendo temas en clase y hablando con la comunidad a través de las llamadas en Skype ayudo mucho con esa experiencia. Estos casos me han permitido ser más consciente de lo que mi servicio y este viaje significa para mí, mi equipo y la comunidad me estará ayudando. Hablando y entrevistando con Regan sobre el viaje fue un refrescante recordatorio en el sentido de que ella ya había ido en el viaje y hablaba sobre cómo en comparación a sus otros servicios de viajes, esta era una invertida y más instructiva experiencia. Esta clase me había expuesto a Nicaragua en la cultura, tradición e historia y gente en preparación para este viaje. También estoy emocionado de poder compartir esta experiencia similar y ser capaz de conectarme con la comunidad. Hemos oído hablar mucho de ellos y hemos tenido llamadas de Skype con ellos que han sido muy informativos y poder realmente estar allí y hablar con ellos de uno-a-uno en español será una verdadera relación de conexión. Siento que sere más capaz de apreciar esta experiencia frente a cualquier otro servicio que hubiera hecho por mi propia cuenta. Hay una diferencia entre ser capaz de ir en un viaje de servicio en comparación con otros miembros de ir por mí mismo. Será estupendo poder crecer con ellos a lo largo de este viaje y ser capaz de unirnos al final del día para compartir y reflexionar sobre lo que hemos aprendido ese día. Estoy emocionada de ser más perspicaz de la gente que conozco y construir amistades con ellos. Lo que es más importante, me alegro de poder hacer algo y ayudar a la comunidad. Como se discutió en la clase, nuestro objetivo no es decirle a la comunidad lo que tienen que hacer, sino que es proveer el debate y crear un entorno en el que son capaces de hablar y con la esperanza de crear cambio basado en esas conversaciones. No puedo esperar para poder hacerlo y escuchar sus puntos de vista y lo que tienen que decir. Este es mi último blog antes de mi viaje que es en un poco más de 2 semanas, no puedo esperar para poder regresar y ser capaz de hablar acerca de mi experiencia! Hasta entonces, hasta luego!
