Author Bio

MEHi! I’m Mon Yuck Yu and I’m an anthropology major at Dartmouth College. Anthropology has led me to appreciate different cultures and traditions and the way that populations worldwide perceive health, medicine, religion, and the world around them. Listening to Rita’s story has been an eye-opening experience for me, offering an entirely different perspective on life in the DR and the difficulties that the transnational migrant faces.

In addition to my academic interests, I also have a huge passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and social service. During my college career, I started a nonprofit organization called the Academy of Medical and Public Health Services, which works to increase health care access for underserved communities, including Latino immigrants. I hope to pursue a career in public health or public administration, with design innovation at the core of my work. As a first-generation college student myself, Rita’s story has been a true inspiration for me to continue my career pursuits and to continue with my work in the social service field.
