Portfolio Fellowship

DartWrite Portfolio Fellows are Dartmouth Seniors (or exceptional Juniors) who act as ambassadors for the DartWrite Program.

Over the course of their fellowship year, Portfolio Fellows build their own public-facing, senior portfolio on the DartWrite platform, getting feedback on portfolio design from DartWrite faculty and from their fellowship cohort. Along the way, they learn about scholarship on digital portfolio education and knowledge transfer.

In collaboration with the DartWrite faculty team, Fellows also help to develop support programming for faculty and students, participate in events like workshops and training sessions, drafting and consulting on outreach materials and initiatives.

The fellowship comes with a $1,000 stipend and runs from mid September until the first week of June.

Fellows are typically students who:

  • have experience and interest in building personal portfolios
  • have experience working in learning support roles like teaching assistance or tutoring
  • and/or have experience building website content

Most fellows are seniors during their fellowship year, but students who will be juniors may also apply if they plan to be on campus for at least two terms in fall, winter, and spring and have remote availability during any off term.

To apply to be a portfolio fellow, send a resume, an email explaining your reasons for applying, and the names and contact information for two references to DartWrite@Dartmouth.edu. Applicants will be interviewed in late spring term. Questions about the position are welcome.

~Thoughts from previous Fellows~

I had a great time getting to see peers really get into making their portfolios. In helping others, professors and peers, I often learned new ways of doing things when working on my own site. The workshops were my favorite part of the job as you really got to see the range of how students could pick up and use the same tools everyone has access to. Some challenges were that fellow students were either intimidated by the idea of building their own site and others lacked interest because of already building a previous site on a different platform. My advice to incoming Fellows is to have fun with it and really build it out as an easy access resource that you, your peers and professors have access to.

In a world that constantly pushes us to the next task, it can be difficult to pause and reflect on what we’ve done and are currently doing. Building a DartWrite portfolio is a chance to do exactly that. As someone who loves teaching and is interested in how people learn, being a fellow has shown me the value of deep self-reflection and allowed me to help other students discover this for themselves. I loved that my work challenged me to learn something new each time I met with a student or facilitated a class workshop. It was also a great opportunity to develop skills in WordPress and digital design, two areas that were completely new to me. DartWrite is an incredible resource to have as a Dartmouth student—take advantage of it!
