October 5 I Final Project Initial Proposal

Describe what you and your partner(s) are planning on doing for this final project for the course. For those people on CCESP - How will you present and implement this project in Hormiguero or Tadazna in the RAAN?

I will be working with Clement on our final project. We are planning to research methods of sustainable agriculture in Nicaragua. Given that the community development team will be working with families in their farms in Tadazna, we wanted to orient our project to have relevance to the work we will be doing in Nicaragua. We are planning to present our final project as an informational pamphlet about production practices in Nicaragua. We were inspired by ongoing conservation efforts in Nicaragua, and how production plays a role in it. This project would also be an extension of Titus and Eric's project, which focuses on the export of the crops produced in Nicaragua and fair-trade. It will be nice to follow the process from production to consumption.

We hope to consult various sources. Some are scientific studies based around ecological agriculture and the sustainability of farm practices. We will also hope to consult people we meet in Nicaragua to inform us further on production practices, and get their perspective on sustainability. Though the final project will be an informative pamphlet, it will be incomplete until the CCESP CD team gets on the ground to learn more about what production practices are specifically used by people in Tadazna. We hope that this project will offer a topic of conversation for the CD team and people of Tadazna centered around farming, the environment, the market, conservation and food.
