Introduction
Created by Ava Hill ’22 with funding from the Dickey Center’s Institute for Arctic Studies through a Remote Stefansson Scholarship with support from Ross Virginia and Natalie Stephenson, this site is meant to be a place for research and exploration into the music of the Arctic. I aim to delve into the fragile categories of “indigenous” and “contemporary” music, and the ways the two meet and evolve in different regions of the Arctic, by focusing on specific genres, artists, or styles within each region. Below is a Spotify playlist with some of the musicians featured in these articles plus some other arctic music I discovered during this process.
Well put together, Ava! I love this website. I am discovering so many new artists. Looking forward to sharing this collection with students and affiliates involved in Arctic Studies! – Natalie Stephenson, Arctic Coordinator A@ Dartmouth
Thanks, Natalie!
