The Slow Rush – Tame Impala
This past Valentine’s Day, February 14th, Tame Impala released his third studio album, “The Slow Rush.” The one-man band kept to his alternative style with dominating bass lines and psychedelic background music and vocals. This album, however, is more cohesive and streamlined than his previous releases: the songs flow seamlessly from one to the next, with no major tempo changes between tracks. That being said, each song can stand independently, even though there are a few standouts, like ‘Borderline,’ ‘Posthumous Forgiveness,’ ‘Lost In Yesterday,’ and to an extent, ‘Glimmer.’ The album has received positive reviews by authoritative voices ranging from Rolling Stone to Clara Pakman ’23, and is perfect to listen to as mood, study, or background music. Take a listen below:
One unique twist the album boasts on Spotify is a video walk through guided by Kevin Parker himself titled “The Slow Rush Time Warp.” The walkthrough playlist includes videos every few songs where Parker explains his process and thinking while making the songs. Also, the collection includes bonus tracks called ‘Time Warps,’ in line with the name of the album. These short tracks, sampling ‘Breathe Deeper,’ ‘Tomorrow’s Dust,’ ‘On Track,’ ‘Is It True,’ and ‘Glimmer’ either slow the beginning or riff of the actual songs and introduce them with a slowed voice just before playing them; they serve as an intro and small break between songs where there aren’t any video introductions.
