REFLECTION/PROJECT POST-MORTEM

Project 3 was obviously a huge divergence from our previous two, major projects. Not only was the medium different but I am also generally unfamiliar and unskilled with most technology and media tools so  I was definitely daunted when I saw the assignment requirements. However, once I started to articulate my ideas it became much clearer. The part of writing process I implemented most in this project was constant revision. I started with essentially writing an essay so that my arguments and evidence were clear and I could take direction from then. After that I started to play around with how I could present these things in a webpage format and also enhance my claims with media. For example, I found that I was able to eliminate paragraphs of text by substituting them with images or infographics. Although this project was so different from past assignments, there were definitely still similarities regarding the writing standards and elements. The most notable similarity is that this project was still argumentative and required work with the motive formula. It was also evidence based and the information collection was done on our own. This helped change the assignment and made the webpage less media based. Although there is still a lot of media content, the words are just as important as the media and the media essentially had a rhetorical purpose of its own. Overall, although this project was very media-heavy, especially compared to our past projects, it still employed shared writing strategies and also made me think that media also has rhetorical power in writing contexts.
