I was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, a relatively small town in upstate New York. My father is an ophthalmologist, and my mother takes care of the house and kids. I have two younger siblings, a brother named Alex and a sister named Riley. They are both still living at home in Saratoga, although Alex will graduate from high school this coming spring and leave for college in the fall.

I spend most of my time at Dartmouth running, reading, hiking, and hanging out with my sorority and my roommates. I work in a research lab studying Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), volunteer for the Red Cross and the Good Neighbor Health Clinic, shadow doctors at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and tutor biology and neuroscience students. In the summers, when I’m not in Hanover, I work for an outdoor education program called Broadreach, teaching scuba diving as part of marine biology and sustainability programs for teens.

/// Below, I’ve included a video made by one of my students, Ana, from two summers ago. She documented our trip, which focused on sustainability, for three weeks.

Academically, I am interested in psychology, biology, and medicine. I want to be a doctor because I want to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. That’s a large part of why I want to go on this trip as well. Of course, I’m certain that the people I meet in Nicaragua will have far more to teach me than I could ever teach them. My greatest hope for the CCESP is that I am able to listen and learn, to grow as a person, to become more certain of my path to becoming a doctor that practices in a public / community health setting, and to improve the lives of the Nicaraguans that I encounter in whatever ways I can.
