About the CCESP Trip

Every year, a group of Dartmouth students travel to Nicaragua to do work with a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) called Bridges to Community. We split up into two groups of roughly 10 students each, a Community Health (CH) Team and a Community Development (CD) Team, and travel to the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (NAAR) where we work in towns near Siuna. The CH team, which includes a few doctors and med students from the Dartmouth Hospital, sets up a health clinic and dispenses medicine and other medical supplies like glasses and toothbrushes. The CD team, which I am on, typically goes to more rural areas and works on a few different projects, such as building latrines, building stoves, and exploring the potential for chicken farms, with the intent of improving daily life in the community. We each spend roughly 10 days working, so we know that the experiences we have and knowledge we acquire will most likely vastly outweigh the benefit we give to the community. Afterwards, we spend a day in Grenada before heading back to the US.
