My name is Dave Staël Lacroix and I am a sophomore at Dartmouth College. Currently, I am interested in majoring in Engineering. As a Haitian American student, I have always found Latin American and Caribbean studies fascinating. As a result, I have decided to take this class that focuses on Nicaragua. In many ways, getting that first hand exposure on Nicaragua allows me to better understand my own ethnic origins. Haiti in many ways is similar to Nicaragua. The more I explore this Latin country and its ties to the United States, the more I learn about Haiti. As a student, I am given the perspective of an outsider looking into Nicaragua and although I will not be attending the trip there in the winter, this class has given me a plethora of knowledge that I would have otherwise not obtained. Through my time here at Dartmouth, I have learned much about myself. Whether it be through my diverse courses or the diverse individuals that I meet, Dartmouth always has something to teach me. This class has taught me that the world is so much bigger than my hometown and if I am to learn more about myself, I must venture off further into the abyss that is life.

Mi nombre es Dave Staël Lacroix y soy estudiante de segundo año en Universidad de Dartmouth. Actualmente, estoy interesado en la especialización en ingeniería. Como un estudiante americano haitiano, siempre he encontrado estudios de América Latina y el Caribe fascinante. Como resultado, he decidido tomar esta clase que se centra en Nicaragua. De muchas maneras, consiguiendo que primera mano la exposición en Nicaragua me permite entender mejor mis propios orígenes étnicos. Haití en muchos sentidos es similar a Nicaragua. Como estudiante, me den la perspectiva de un forastero a Nicaragua y aunque no asistiré el viaje allí en el invierno, esta clase me ha dado una gran cantidad de conocimiento que de lo contrario no habría obtenido. A través de mi tiempo aquí en Dartmouth, he aprendido mucho sobre mí mismo. Ya sea a través de mis cursos diversos o las diversas personas que conozco, Dartmouth siempre tiene algo para enseñarme.
