(September 20) This was a beautiful Wednesday night. We got on the bus and headed to Chaoyang Theater for the show. On the bus, some students took out their textbooks or notebooks or even cellphone to study for their test tomorrow. Professor Zhang got so emotional and he said LSA students were the best! The show was exciting and beautiful, sometimes even breathtaking. I hope our students all had fun and good luck with their test.

(September 17) A few Dartmouth Alumni kindly invited our LSA students to have dinner together at "海碗居"(Haiwanju, a Beijing-style restaurant). During the dinner, the alumni shared their experience of living and studying or woking in Beijing, as well as their fun stories of dealing with the Chinese language. The dinner was filled out with inspiring conversations as well as our crazy laughters.

(September 16) The weather was quite nice in the morning, a little humid in the afternoon. We visited a lot of places today. We first went to "荷花市场"(Lotus Market) and “后海”(Houhai), where local people usually do morning exercises and relax. There were also some very creative stores, selling interesting Chinese antiques, like "鼻烟壶"(snuff bottle) and Chinese traditional tea sets. Our second stop was the city wall of Ming Dynasty. The building was located to the southeast of Beijing Train Station of Dongcheng District. It was first built in 1439(Ming Dynasty) and repaired for a few times in both Ming and Qing Dynasty. It was the only one Turret of Ming Dynasty that is reserved up to today. Later, we went to Tian'anmen Square and Olympic Park and visited “the Bird's Nest” and "the Water Cube".

On the night of September 13, we held a party at Room 204 in the main building on campus. The party was supposed to create an opportunity for both BNU students and Dartmouth students to communicate and share their thoughts with each other, in the aspect of language, culture, college life and anything they were interested in. 17 Chinese students enthusiastically participated in this event and had a rather lively discussion with Dartmouth students. The party lasted one hour and a half, with snacks and drinks served. Everybody had a fun time and they also saved each other's phone number and Wechat ID for future contact.

On the morning of September 11, the next day of Chinese Teachers' day, Professor Zhang(Hesheng Zhang) officially announced the opening of LSA program. Students first met with all the teachers which will be teaching them in the following 9 weeks. Both students and teachers did self introductions. Students seemed a little nervous but excited! We wish them all the best with their life and study in BNU!
