Languages

cien anos de soledad My first language is Spanish as it is the official language in Colombia. I’ve taken Spanish and English classes my whole life. My father being a languages teacher always reinforced that we should learn English, even when we lived in Colombia. This proved to be of great value when I moved to the United States, because it facilitated and accelerated the transition.

Spanish has always been important to me because it connects me to my identity. My father used to say, “ language is culture,” and as I’ve grown up I can see how much truth there is in his words. To an extent the language you speak makes you who you are.

I’m not going on the CCESP, so as of right now I’m not worried about my spanish.

However, I would like to read and write more in Spanish and learn other languages by taking classes on them here at Dartmouth.
